EME Hub Themed Workshop | 28–29 May 2026 | University of Glasgow
The EME Hub is pleased to announce an upcoming themed workshop on Semantic Interaction in Contested Electromagnetic Environments, to be held at the University of Glasgow on 28–29 May 2026, alongside IEEE ICC 2026.
As electromagnetic systems evolve towards adaptive, AI-enabled and software-defined platforms, the focus is growing on the interpretation and manipulation of meaning and intent within communications adjacent to reliable signal transmission. This workshop will explore how semantic interaction can be enabled, degraded, or denied in dynamic and contested electromagnetic environments.
The event will bring together leading researchers from information theory, semantic communications, artificial intelligence, and electromagnetic systems, alongside industry and defence stakeholders. Topics will include semantic communications under adversarial conditions, emergent protocols, physical-layer intelligence, and trust in autonomous systems.
The two-day workshop will combine invited talks, structured breakout discussions, and collaborative development of research directions, with the aim of identifying key challenges and shaping future opportunities aligned with the EME Hub remit.
Workshop Vision
To bring together researchers across information theory, semantic communications, AI, sensing, and electromagnetic systems to address a central question:
How can meaning, intent, and trust be degraded or denied when communication occurs without shared assumptions in dynamic electromagnetic environments?
The aim is to bridge emerging academic theory with challenges to EM operations, enabling new research directions relevant to both civilian and defence contexts.
