Dates: 9-11 August 2023, Glasgow
Course Aims: To provide the participants with an understanding of the principles, design, and analysis of the electromagnetic threats to uncrewed vehicles and how uncrewed vehicles may be protected in an electromagnetic environment.
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of the Summer School: On successful completion of the summer school, you will have a good understanding of Electromagnetic Activities (EMA) including Electromagnetic Attack (EA), Electromagnetic Protective Measures (EPM) and Electromagnetic Surveillance Measures (ESM). The ILOs of the course are as follows.
- Outline the various electromagnetic attack and associated defence measures applicable to modern uncrewed vehicles.
- Select and assess appropriate EPM against threats to uncrewed vehicles, given an operational specification.
- Implement appropriate ESM as part of EA action on uncrewed vehicles.
- Implement and demonstrate EA and EM counter measure (ECM) for uncrewed vehicles.
Audience: The summer school and competition are open to graduate students, researchers, and industry professionals working in the field of electronics, communications or control systems . Participants should have a basic understanding of wireless communication and computer networking and should be familiar with programming in at least one programming language. Participants should also have an interest in UxVs and the challenges of resilient operations in the electromagnetic environment.

Operating in the Future Electromagnetic Environment Symposium 2023 (OFEME)
The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) will host its fourth Operating in the Future Electromagnetic Environment (OFEME) symposium on 20 and 21 November 2023. Supported by the Electromagnetic Environment (EME) Hub, academics, suppliers (including small and medium-sized enterprises) and colleagues from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and other government departments are all invited.
This is planned to be an in-person event in Nottingham at the East Midlands Conference Centre, but the main talks will also be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend. Read more.
