March 3rd to March 7th 2025

During the first week in March 2025, The Electromagnetic Environment (EME) Hub at Loughborough University hosted a free Training Module on Electromagnetic Systems for Defence. Building on the success of last year’s programme, this year the separate courses were brought together to run concurrently during one week. There were 24 lectures and two practical Labs over 5 days. Building on the success of last year’s programme, this year the separate courses were brought together to run concurrently during one week. There were 24 lectures and two practical Labs over 5 days.
The EME Hub funder, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), was closely involved in developing the module and provided valuable insights through guest lectures. We were delighted to host several senior engineers and a military advisor form Dstl. Seven academic from the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering and Queen Mary University of London also gave insightful lectures on subjects such as advanced materials, electromagnetic attack and communications.
The module was well attended, with over 20 different institutions and companies in the research area, coming together to create a fantastic atmosphere and networking opportunity.
Comments from participants included, “Highly informative”, “Lectures seemed enthusiastic and helped give great insight” and “Diverse and covered a number of different areas and topics”. The practical labs on communications and using Software Defined Radio of jamming was extremely popular!
We are already working on making next year’s event bigger and better!
