SUMMARY:EME Hub Summer School 2024
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the launch of the EME Hub’s second FREE week-long summer school: \nSummer School and Competition on Resilience in the Electromagnetic Environment for Uncrewed Vehicle in a Defence Relevant Context.\n22nd – 26th July at the Queen Mary University of London. \nIntroduction:\nUncrewed vehicles (UxVs) are increasingly being used for a variety of applications\, including kinetic and non-kinetic effects delivery\, surveillance (optical\, RF\, etc)\, search and rescue\, and delivery of goods. As the use of UxVs\, and the electromagnetic environment they operate in\, becomes more widespread\, there is a growing need for technologies and techniques for resilient operations using these platforms\, including protection against intentional or unintentional electromagnetic interference. To address these challenges and promote research in this field\, we plan to organize a summer school and competition on UxV electromagnetic resilience. \nCourse Aims:\nTo provide the participants with an understanding of the principles\, design\, and analysis of the electromagnetic threats to uncrewed vehicles and how uncrewed vehicles may be protected in an electromagnetic environment. \nIntended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of the Summer School:\nOn successful completion of the summer school\, you will have a good understanding of Electromagnetic Activities (EMA) including Electromagnetic Attack (EA)\, Electromagnetic Protective Measures (EPM) and Electromagnetic Surveillance Measures (ESM). The ILOs of the course are as follows. \n\nOutline the various electromagnetic attack and associated defence measures applicable to modern uncrewed vehicles.\nSelect and assess appropriate EPM against threats to uncrewed vehicles\, given an operational specification.\nImplement appropriate ESM as part of EA action on uncrewed vehicles.\nImplement and demonstrate EA and EM counter measure (ECM) for uncrewed vehicles.\n\nSummer School:\nThe summer school will be held over a period of 5 days\, and will consist of lectures\, hands-on workshops\, and group discussions. The lectures will cover the basic principles of UxV communications and electromagnetic interference\, basics of EA\, EPM\, ESM\, legalities of operating in the EME\, covering wireless communication protocols\, UxV control systems and UxV payloads. The hands-on workshops will provide participants with practical experience in designing and implementing resilient electromagnetic techniques for UxVs\, including in detecting and defending against intentional or unintentional interference. The group discussions will allow participants to exchange ideas and share their experiences\, and to identify new research directions and opportunities. \nPlease register by 30th June – Places are limited! \nUse the following Microsoft Form to register your interest https://forms.office.com/e/SWSkV7Aksi

DESCRIPTION:Course Aims: To provide the participants with an understanding of the principles\, design\, and analysis of the electromagnetic threats to uncrewed vehicles and how uncrewed vehicles may be protected in an electromagnetic environment. \nIntended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of the Summer School: On successful completion of the summer school\, you will have a good understanding of Electromagnetic Activities (EMA) including Electromagnetic Attack (EA)\, Electromagnetic Protective Measures (EPM) and Electromagnetic Surveillance Measures (ESM). The ILOs of the course are as follows. \n\nOutline the various electromagnetic attack and associated defence measures applicable to modern uncrewed vehicles.\nSelect and assess appropriate EPM against threats to uncrewed vehicles\, given an operational specification.\nImplement appropriate ESM as part of EA action on uncrewed vehicles.\nImplement and demonstrate EA and EM counter measure (ECM) for uncrewed vehicles.\n\nAudience: The summer school and competition are open to graduate students\, researchers\, and industry professionals working in the field of electronics\, communications or control systems . Participants should have a basic understanding of wireless communication and computer networking and should be familiar with programming in at least one programming language. Participants should also have an interest in UxVs and the challenges of resilient operations in the electromagnetic environment. \nClosing date: 12th July 2023 \nRegistration: Free \n\nREGISTER YOUR INTEREST HERE
